Stephen Fry Open Letter
Stephen Fry a gay british writer, has many valid points about what is happening in Russia right now. I believe that it is completely valid what he is saying especially that the Olympics should be moved. The 5 rings have already been tarnished because of Berlin 1935, where Jews were being isolated being scapegoats. Now the same thing is basically happening in Russia though with different kinds of people being isolated and used. Gays and lesbians are still people though they are not being treated like them, lesbians are being raped to make them "right" and gays are being beaten. If the Olympic comity goes through with holding the 2014 winter Olympics in Russia what are they saying about humanitarian rights? What are they saying about humanity in general. Even if the olympic comity says that they will protect all gay athletes, if I were a gay athlete I would not want to go to the 2014 olympics, I would be too scared to go. Police and people are ignoring beatings and rapes, by people just supporting the gay community. This is not what humanity should be saying or doing about one another.

Once upon a Time Nadine Gordimer
Nadine starts off by writing what inspired her to write this story. She never wanted to be a children's writer and despite the title she still did not write a story for children. The statements she indistinctly made are bold and necessary, they were about segregation, racism and not letting people in or letting go. These are all important statements because no one should be judged or excluded because of what colour skin they have or what they look like. She points out that if you want to keep everyone out you will probably hurt the people you loved, most. One of the tones of this story was indigence, because of the racism and segregation. The Wall that the family builds up represents the barrier between races and the "Wise Old Witch" is another representation of the barrier. This story is a mockery or parody of a fairytale, because the author repeatedly uses "they live happily ever after" in the beginning of the story, and then the ending is actually quite grotesque. The night before the son gets injured, the mother read him Sleeping Beauty he got injured because he wanted to be like the prince fighting the thorn bushes to save her.
